Mesquite Grill

Mesquite Grill

I distinctly remember, several years back, having friends visit and heading out to one of our favorite ‘kid-friendly’ haunts, Monte Alban, for dinner. When the server came around to take our drink orders, one of our guests asked for a Corona Light, and we had to chuckle and advise that wasn’t an option. My how times have changed!

While Monte Alban still does not offer beer/wine (I believe their proximity to the church just a few doors down precludes them from obtaining a license), the owners have worked around this by opening a new establishment, The Mesquite Grill, in the former KFC building.

When you visit, you’ll quickly realize this is NOT just Monte Alban with a bar. The menu items are similar, but the food is distinctively more upscale. Don’t misunderstand, we love Monte Alban, but Mesquite’s offerings seem fresher with delicious herbs, interesting flavor combinations and the salad isn’t just a piece of tomato over a few leaves of iceberg lettuce.

I had the vegetarian stuffed peppers, which were insanely delicious, and David had “The Peter”: a burrito filled with shredded ground beef, spinach & beans, topped with nacho cheese, pico and barley. It was served with rice and black beans, and again, the quality and taste were outstanding!

What many may not realize is that The Mesquite Grill is also open for breakfast, with a diverse and interesting menu (see photos!)

Open Sunday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 7:30 a.m.- 10:00 p.m. There is a bar with TV. They do not have a website but are on Facebook as Mesquite Grill Mexican Restaurant. Telephone is 706.632.6911

The service was friendly, the food was fantastic and this is a welcome new addition to the Blue Ridge food scene! Check them out!
